Today, we reflect back on one of our favorite winter weddings to date, in a location we have been longing to photograph since we set our eyes upon it - the newlyweds are Abby and John, with their classic New England Winter Wedding taking place at the Willowdale Estate, tucked away in Bradley Palmer State Park.
As can be expected during Winter in New England, Old Man Winter made his presence known by coating the area in a blanket of perfect, magical snow just one day before their nuptials. The timing could not have been better, with the roads being cleared just in time for all the guests to arrive. Coming from great distances (Abby's family traveling from Seattle, and John's friends from Quebec and Louisiana), guests were welcomed into the warmth and splendor of the old estate; which was expertly decorated for the season with garland, woodland decor and white holiday lights galore.
Prior to the ceremony, a Ketubah was signed by those present. The thought and detail that went into the Ketubah's design was astonishing! From there, the blissful couple exchanged vows below a chuppah, adorned with hand-made details and Abby's grandmothers Bat-Mitzvah Tallit (prayer shawl) while they were wrapped with Abby's own Tallit with Rabbi Sterling officiating, who incorporated many personal thoughts and details into their ceremony, filling the room with warmth and love.
Afterward, we stole a few moments outside to capture the scenic winter wonderland view the estate granted. Abby, snuggling in close to John for warmth, was absolutely radiant. John, remaining strong and steadfast, was totally debonaire in his dark navy suit and southern-inspired boots. Abby's awesome bouquet (and all the other floral pieces) was hand-designed by Simple Bouquets of Tilton, NH and perfectly complimented the feel and theme of the day.
With live music by Mirage Band of New England, the reception began in full swing with the newlyweds entertaining the guests with their choreographed first dance. Toasts, dinner and cake soon followed and the evening finished with nearly every guest lifting John and Abby in the air on their chairs while Mirage played Hava Nagila. Cookies, coffee and cake (The Willowdale's specialty) were set out and the aroma was absolute decadence.
Here are our favorite images from their day. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do!
